Gerardo serves as Assistant Chaplain to the Colorado Rapids. He was born in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia, the second of three children. After graduating high school he moved to Bogota, and graduated in 1996 with a BA in Physical Therapy. After graduating he worked with children suffering from cerebral palsy. Gerardo’s desire to be near his family brought him to the United States in 1997. He settled in Maryland, working as a PT aide and taking ESL classes at Anne Arundel Community College. Gerardo attended Heritage Community Church (HCC) where he helped establish the Hispanic Church. While attending HCC he met and married his beautiful bride Sharon in 2000.
Gerardo and Sharon relocated to Denver in 2003. He had the opportunity to become one of the first national accredited Medical Interpreters at Denver Health Hospital where he has been employed since 2004. In 2011 Gerardo fulfilled a lifelong dream of attending Seminary. He graduated from Denver Seminary in 2016 where he obtained a Masters degree in Christian Formation and Soul Care. Gerardo, Sharon and Maurice currently attend Stapleton Church, where he leads the prayer team.
Gerardo and Sharon adopted their son Maurice in 2011. Maurice has a love for soccer and has enjoyed playing in the Colorado Rapids Youth league.
In his spare time Gerardo enjoys, attending church, watching the World Cup, reading, camping, and spending time with his family.
