This past weekend, I met with the Board of Directors for Soccer Chaplains United for our quarterly meeting. We accomplished a lot within our time together. Amongst some of the highlights were reviewing the bylaws that were initially formed as CrossTraining, accepting a couple of board resignations, and reviewing the work over the 3rd quarter. The difficult piece was financially. Soccer Chaplains United is currently at 50% of our budget raised and we've only 6-weeks left to go in our fiscal year. With the rebranding from CrossTraining going on this year, we've struggled with fundraising. We couldn't build and promote CrossTraining knowing that our new doing business as name was going to be Soccer Chaplains United and we couldn't promote

Today, we pay homage to St Martin of Tours. St Martin is the patron saint of chaplaincy. His recognized feast day in the church is recognized on November 11. The English word 'chaplain' comes from Martin's life story. Martin, as a Roman soldier, one day was headed into the city of Amiens, France with his troops. On the side of the road, he saw a man shivering from the cold. Moved with compassion, Martin cut a piece of his cloak and offered it to the man as a covering from the cold. Later that night, in a dream, Jesus appeared to Martin. Martin, who is still but a catechumen, clothed me with this robe. The compelling words of Jesus encouraged

This week at the Denver Film Festival, in its 40th anniversary, local Colorado filmmakers Aaron and Amanda Kopp co-produced and directed film Liyana is being played and has a special connection to Soccer Chaplains United. In 2016, Tim Rogers made a special Timothy Project request as he and his fiancé, Tiersa planned to honeymoon in Swaziland. Tiersa had worked at an orphanage in Swaziland and the plan was to take down soccer gear for the children of the orphanage and run some soccer camps. That same orphanage is where the story of Liyana is born. *Liyana is a Swazi girl who embarks on a dangerous quest to rescue her young twin brothers.

Sitting on a train headed north to my best friend's place in Glasgow, Scotland, I decided to message a former Colorado Rapids player and coach who is from Scotland. Me: Hey, headed to the motherland. Thinking of you! Hope you are well. Him: Where are you? Me: Glasgow, for the next few days. Him: Hey, my son just signed for Kilmarnock FC. You should ring him, he'd love to see you. Announcing our latest App Update! Soccer Chaplains United App now features devotional material in English and Spanish! We've just added a devotionals to the Media section of our app. Roger Lipe, chaplain for the American football collegiate Southern Illinois Salukis, has graciously given Soccer Chaplains United permission to link to his online devotional materials. His daily devotionals feature short scriptural reflections written for the sports person in mind and are excerpts of his book Heart of a Champion. The book is available in English and in Spanish.
