Stonehill Church Reports Back On Mexico, Preps for Guatemala
Stonehill Church, a new church partner to Soccer Chaplains United (supporting Ben Bost, AC Boise). Recently, returned from Mexico, where a team worked to build a house for a family and requested some soccer gear to take with them.
Trip Leader Rich Lapp, shared the following summary from the team’s time in Mexico:
We had a team of fifteen people from Stonehill Church visit a small village about one hour south of Tijuana, Mexico, June 3-7, 2026. We worked with Amor ministries who has been building “houses” in the area for over 20 years.
We stayed at a campground owned and operated by Amor ministries. They provided tents pitched in an open dirt field. We brought sleeping pads, bags, etc. It is very rustic with pit toilets and bucket showers. They provide a meal service at the campground where we ate delicious breakfasts and dinners. We packed lunches for our work days.
When we arrived at the work site, the cement pad had already been poured by the local church, and all of the building materials were on hand. We were given detailed building plans ahead of time. Emmanuel was our Amor building manager. He has overseen hundreds of these builds and was very helpful and knowledgeable. No power tools are available, so everything is done by hand using tools provided by Amor. We framed the walls and roof, wrapped the house with tar paper and chicken wire before applying stucco. We installed tar paper and rolled roofing. There was one exterior door, one interior door opening and two windows in this 2-room structure. The total square footage is 242 square feet. The outside is fully finished with stucco, but the inside has exposed framing.
The work was very physical and the temperatures were very hot. We were all filthy dirty and exhausted by the end of each day, but also fulfilled in knowing that we were truly God’s hands and feet in providing a significantly upgraded living environment for this young family.
On the final day we were able to bless the family with some housewarming gifts and things for the kids. They were very appreciative. Thanks to the generosity of SCU we were also able to bless them with a couple of different jerseys, shorts and warmups.

This experience was rewarding on many levels. The hard physical labor in God’s name was rewarding. Interacting and seeing the joy on the faces of the family was rewarding. Knowing that we have changed the trajectory of their lives was rewarding. Building relationships within our team from Stonehill was enjoyable and rewarding. Thank you for your contribution to this experience!
Rich and the members of Stonehill Church now get ready to head to Guatemala with more soccer gear to help enhance their work and mission. You can read more about their Guatemala trip next week, Thursday.
