Timothy Project: Valor Kenya 2016

CrossTraining Timothy ProjectCrossTraining has received another Timothy Project request from Valor Christian High School and the Math and Science Instructor/Team Leader Greg Blake. Blake and his Valor team of 25 (21 students and 4 faculty) will depart to Kenya June 16-30. Valor for a number of years now have been working with H.E.A.R.T and Children of Hope. Children of Hope, an orphanage in Kenya was an early Timothy Project recipient in 2011.

Valor Christian High School’s Discovery Kenya program provides a unique opportunity for students and school faculty to serve and support widows and orphans. The Kenya Discovery Team will partner with H.E.A.R.T Ministries and Children of Hope to bring healing and empowerment to widows, orphans, and others impacted by poverty and HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

For Valor, this is the seventh year of partnership with H.E.A.R.T. Valor students will serve the poor in the slums of Nairobi and be involved with a work project in a rural village –  building relationships and also a home for a widow and her family. The team will also participate in a local church service with children and minister to Kenyan orphans that are a part of Children of Hope. Team Leader Blake shared about the opportunity through soccer,

Soccer is a bridge that immediately connects American students and Kenyan students…For many children in Kenya, their only soccer ball is a cluster of balled up trash, bound together with twine. To give the gift of a real soccer ball to these children would leave behind a lasting experience beyond our couple weeks there.

Timothy Project: Swaziland 2016

CrossTraining Timothy Project

From all the way in typically, rain-soaked Seattle, Timothy Project: Swaziland 2016 looks to the dry, landlocked country in southern Africa. Surrounded by South Africa and Mozambique, Swaziland is the only remaining monarchy in Africa. With nearly 1.3 million people, it has the highest rate of HIV per capita in Africa causing an abundance of orphans and destitute children. There is an urgent need to rescue, protect, and empower these children!

New Life Homes (NLH) is an organization caring for these orphans. They currently minister to 40 children from the ages of two years old up to their early twenties on the New Life Homes Farm found in the Shiselweni region in rural Swaziland. The two core values of NLH are to provide quality, restorative care for the children in their care (as opposed to trying to have high numbers of children) and to pursue economic self-reliance through the farm’s productivity. The NLH Farm offers lots of food-security and life-skills to those who live and work and grow up there. A strong work ethic, agricultural knowledge and skills, income earning opportunities are all part of the work to develop well-­adjusted, self­-reliant young people who are properly adapted to their culture, ready and eager to join the community as responsible adults.

New Life Homes is also a Christian organization with a strong commitment to bringing these children up with the knowledge of a heavenly Father who loves them dearly. They are encouraged to read their Bibles, memorize scripture, and have a relationship with Jesus, knowing his great love for them and all that has been accomplished for them on the cross.

Timothy Project: Swaziland 2016 will feature a five-day soccer camp and possible tournament to support, and assist NLH through soccer to enrich, encourage and explore new and deeper relationships with the Swaziland orphans and the surrounding community. This one week trip (August 7, 2016 to August 14, 2016) will concentrate on five soccer clinics connecting soccer skills with Christian character traits with an aim to explore future community projects and further NLH support teams.

Tiersa-profileTiersa Chaffin spent three years at NLH teaching and directing the preschool at the Farm. She continues to support orphan sponsorship as part of the NLH team in America and is part of the launch team for the feature­ length documentary film LIYANA. This film, shot at New Life Homes, follows a group of Swaziland children through a live and animated cinematography with the goal of celebrating the transformative power of children and their stories.

Tiersa’s fiancé, Tim Rogers is a technology teacher from Olympia, WA. He currently coaches youth soccer and is a member of the media game day staff with the Seattle Sounders. He was a 2nd Team All-American defender at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL where he was part of the 2004 NCCAA Div 2 National Champion team. He ministered in Athens, Greece from 2002­-2005 working with outreach at the Olympic Games and supporting technology projects, youth outreach and refugee ministry . He has been involved in soccer ministry in Wales, Scotland, England, Greece and America.

Anastasis Academy and ACC

Timothy Project: Forge 2016

CrossTraining Timothy ProjectFor the past 25 years, Forge has been sending international mission teams to countries in various locations throughout the world in fulfillment of their mission and vision to raise up “Kingdom Laborers” who are challenged, equipped and mobilized to follow Jesus and his example to make disciples who make disciples. Most of Forge’s international teams engage the international mission field as part of an intensive discipleship training program that is headquartered from Denver, CO.

Teams usually consist of young adult students from across the U.S. and from other international locations. Forge provides biblical training, team building, stateside and international ministry opportunities and a life-planning process that launches them back into their local communities. Forge uses sports as a platform to communicate the gospel message to indigenous people groups and are asking CrossTraining via the Timothy Project for help in equipping their teams.

This year, Forge will be sending one team to serve in Saltillo, Mexico in partnership with one of Forge’s indigenous alumni, Isaac, who is studying to be a doctor. The Mexico team will serve on the streets of Saltillo and at a large youth camp. The team will then travel to the heart of Mexico—Mexico City—where they will be hosted by another indigenous alumni, Santiago. The team will put on a youth conference in Toluca, Mexico. Then serve a rural community in the town of Atlacomulco.

Forge will also be in Honduras. The team this year will be partnering with an indigenous alumni, Marcia, in Copan where they will serve alongside a local ministry hosting camps for local youth. Then they will take a bus to the capital city of Tegucigalpa where they will partner with a local school to minister to youth in the city. The team is praying about an opportunity to bring the message of Hope to the “glue boys”—orphaned young boys who are addicted to shoe glue—on the streets of downtown Tegucigalpa.
