The Soccer Psalms – Psalm 131

This past December, I released a new book, The Soccer Psalms, as a self-published work. Today, on the podcast, I read—Psalm 131 and Soccer Psalm 131—from the book, and share the reflection and mediation questions. What does it look like for an elite athlete to have perspective and not worry so much about their career or making their own “destiny” when it comes to the Beautiful Game? Does an elite soccer player or coach ever reach a point where they don’t need to learn anything else? Psalm 131 and the Soccer Psalm 131 could be a daily reminder that we need to have patience and be willing and open to being trained by God for all that he has in store. I suggest one memorizes this psalm or soccer psalm and recite it as you lace up the boots and put on the shinguards.

Today, on the podcast, I read—Psalm 13 and Soccer Psalm 13—from the book, and share the reflection and mediation questions. It’s difficult to be on the bench – to see limited playing time after putting in so much effort during the week in the training session. The fiercest competitors and athletes are rarely satisfied to be role players. Does God see us? When will he “put us in” or “call us up”? This psalm can be one that gives encouragement that God will call us at the right time for the plans and purposes that he has for us.

Soccer Chaplains United Expands Giving Options with PushPay

In competitive sport, we need to be reminded and exhorted towards fair play. As athletes, we may see others who bend and break the rules unfairly to their advantage—a malicious tackle, a dishonest hand raised, or the cutting of some corner. Although VAR exists in the Beautiful Game today, not everything is seen—but God sees. God knows. And he will bring justice. We can cry out to him.

Eliason Doesn’t Renew with Board; Finishes 8 years of Service

When Geoff Eliason joined the Soccer Chaplains United Board of Directors in 2017, he immediately brought a new sense of energy to the Board of Directors. The former strength and conditioning coach for the Indiana University Men’s Soccer team, had worked with several players (including the Colorado Rapids own, Drew Moor). Geoff’s experience in the financial marketplace, also brought a different network of potential people to help support, coach, and guide Soccer Chaplains United as an organization.

Geoff’s contributions include helping bring his brother (Travis) onto the board, introducing Matt Kaufman as a potential board member, helping to secure several large-gift donations, and serving as a patron for supplying a bulk quantity of soccer devotionals to Front Range Christian School’s soccer programs during 2022.

Geoff elected to not renew for another three-year term as an opportunity has arisen with USA Weightlifting’s Foundation to participate in leading up to the next Olympic cycle. As a former Olympic weightlifter, Geoff is looking forward to utilizing his gifts and talents in this direction.

I look forward to continuing to look for where the Lord is working around me specific to SCU and join Him in that work.  Thanks for including me in God’s story woven throughout SCU.
