Timothy Project: Czech Republic 2015 Final Update

Timothy Project: Czech Republic 2015CrossTraining Timothy ProjectThe Timothy Project: Czech Republic 2015 final update comes from the team that traveled to the Czech Republic this past summer. If you will recall, CrossTraining – through the Timothy Project – outfitted the team which featured six players and two coaches with indoor soccer balls to use during the indoor portion of the camp. The team has been traveling to CZ for a few years now and hosting soccer camps which are designed to give children an opportunity to start building a foundation with a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Team leader, Greg Hubbard (pictured above, 2nd row, 2nd from right), wrote the following expression of thanks for the contribution of indoor balls,

First and foremost I would like to thank you for your prayers and donations that helped make the 2015 Czech Soccer Camp possible…I had the privilege of having my father attend, as well as another father-son duo, so it was…only fitting for our small group devotional time to be centered around the idea of “Fatherhood” and the story of the Prodigal Son. The players were challenged with questions about their father’s role (or lack there of) in their life and how their perception of their earthly father might unfairly translate on their view of their Heavenly Father.

As the team spent a week in Pisek, American and Czech players participated with the coaches for hours each day in drills and scrimmages aimed at uniting the two cultures alike through the common language of soccer and the devotional times aimed to speak to the heart of the young men in attendance. But the trip wasn’t only impactful for the local young men of Pisek, as Hubbard shared about one of his own team members,

The week ended with a very emotional testimony from one of our members from the Czech leadership team describing how his life reflected that of the prodigal son; mixed up with alcohol and gambling, but found a gracious Heavenly Father who was asking for nothing more of him than to deny his sinful desires and lovingly put his trust in the Lord, just as He had loved us first.

Hubbard and Cherry Hills Community Church have already begun planning and praying for 2016 and future camps and programs. Please keep the team and the lives they have impacted in your prayers.

Timothy Project: Czech Republic 2015

IMG_0051What can a ball do? A ball can be a bridge. A ball can break language and cultural barriers. A ball can do a lot.

The team has been going to Czech Republic for a number of years now, but not until 2012 did the annual trip utilize soccer and a soccer camp to reach out to children and the young people in the community of Pisek. From June 28- July 5, a team of 8 people – featuring six players and two coaches will travel as part of a larger team from Cherry Hills Community Church (CHCC) in Highlands Ranch, Colorado to their partner church Elim Evangelical Church (EEC) to host soccer camps which are designed to give children an opportunity to start building a foundation with a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Czech Republic “has one of the least religious populations in the world, being the country with the third most atheistic population by percentage, behind only China and Japan” according to Wikipedia. The lack of belief in God (see Wikipedia link above) has left many youth searching and wanting for “something more,” that can not be found in freedom, electronics, or anything besides God’s love which is the main focus in the partnership between Cherry Hills and Elim.

Timothy Project Futsal ballsOne of the primary ways both churches help bring attention to God’s love is through relational ministry which now includes the soccer camp outreach. 2015 marks the fourth time that Cherry Hills has reached out to CrossTraining’s Timothy Project for support. In past years, CrossTraining has provided balls, pinnies (jerseys), and cones. This year, Cherry Hills’ specific request was for indoor soccer balls (futsal) to help with the indoor portions of the soccer camp.

As the soccer camps continue to grow each year, a base and foundation for relationships within the community mean more and more opportunities to share about God’s great love. Cherry Hills Czech Republic Team Leader, Greg Hubbard, says that the soccer group has seen a lot of young people give their life to Christ, in the past few years that Cherry Hills has used soccer in the community.

Both churches ask for prayers – especially that the camps will be successful and that team members will have safe travel to Czech Republic and within country. The deadline for helping the camps is June 30th.

Timothy Project 2013

Soccer camp in Czech Republic was a 2012 recipient of a Timothy Project award.

CrossTraining announced today that applications are now being accepted for 2013 Timothy Project proposals. The Timothy Project involves CrossTraining allocating resources and connections to those involved in missional endeavors to impact diverse communities around the world using the sport of soccer. Proposals often include requests for equipment, financial sponsorship, and event promotion. Proposals may be submitted from the Timothy Project page where a hyperlink will direct respondents to an online submission form that includes criteria for consideration.

The Timothy Project started in 2010 as part of CrossTraining and START Ministries agreement and partnership in ministry. Founder and Colorado Director, Brad Kenney recalls the beginnings of the Timothy Project,

In dialogue with START, we wanted to join in the amazing vision that they had to support short-term mission work locally and globally. Since God has placed us in the sport of soccer and since soccer (or futbol) is the “global game” we found a natural outlet for supporting START and living out this incredible vision by supporting those utilizing the game to transform communities and really impact the world.

Young boys in Mongolia are the beneficiaries of a group that has a vision to rescue boys out of a cultural path of alcoholism.

What began as a simple sponsorship has grown over the last few years to include project involvement in places as far away as Mongolia and as close to home as Portland and Colorado.

Projects that merit consideration will meet with CrossTraining’s goals and vision for the program and more details can be found on the Timothy Project page of the website and on the online submission form. Donations can be made directly to the Timothy Project by marking an online gift or check “Timothy Project” and even designating a gift toward a specific project. Project submittals will be considered until a  date to be determined or until project funds have run out for the year. Keep checking the Timothy Project page for updates on approved projects.

We’re excited to see what projects God has in store for us to work with this year. There will be some amazing stories, to be sure.

Czeching In

In the buildup to the July 9 departure for the team to the Czech Republic, the first recipient of the 2012 Timothy Project, already has a story to share – and on this side of the pond.

The Cherry Hills Community Church Czech Initiative teams expect to have 25-30 players ages 15-20 attending the inaugural soccer camp from July 16th through the 20th. While the Timothy Project has been used to help provide soccer balls for the players, the team will be doing a lot more. Working alongside Czech coaches and leaders there will be a special time for camp participants. On the Tuesday afternoon of the camp,there will be an outdoor adventure training and focus on manhood.  A Christian guest speaker from Prague will challenge the campers physically outdoors and then back at the church will share a message on manhood. The men on the CHCC Czech Initiative team will the follow up the next day in sharing a struggle or fear with campers – giving practical application and insight in how they dealt with it.

Please pray for the CHCC Czech Initiative team which is made up of four  adult coaches and five teenage players who will integrate themselves into the camp along with the Czech teenage campers. The preparation for the trip has already had some lasting impact, below is an email from parents of one of the teenage team members:

“I am especially appreciative of the tremendous spiritual influence … on [his] faith walk.  He certainly has matured spiritually in the past 12 months, but these meetings in preparation for the missions trip have been equally as helpful. So thank you … stay encouraged by the important role you play in young people’s lives.”

And CrossTraining thanks its supporters – because you are having an impact in this young man’s life and this team’s life, too.

Timothy Project Update: Czech Republic

 The countdown is underway and the team is nearly set to go. The July 10 departure date will see a team of high school students and adults from Cherry Hills Community Church in Colorado fly to Pisek and host a soccer camp for Czech teenagers from July 14-July 22. The soccer camp is part of a larger outreach initiative to reach out to the Czech peoples.

One of the team leaders, David Guetig, recently e-mailed CrossTraining to confirm the delivery of several soccer balls acquired through the Timothy Project. “I did receive seven size 5 Nike indoor soccer balls … yesterday.  They are in beautiful shape and will definitely help the team out with respect to our mission trip!”

The Czech Team still has financial needs that CrossTraining supporters can help with. Among some of the needs are for camper t-shirt costs. Make your donation out to CrossTraining: Czech in order to support this Timothy Project today.

Timothy Project: Czech Republic update

Thanks to the generosity of CrossTraining supporters, CrossTraining, through the Timothy Project, was able to provide several Nike futsal indoor soccer balls for the mission team from Cherry Hills Community Church in Colorado to take with them for their upcoming trip in July.

 

The team leaves July 10 and will be in country for two weeks, conducting a soccer clinic/camp for youth in the city of Pisek amongst other activities. The team has spent years building relationships in Pisek and has usually conducted basketball camps, until this year when it will host the first soccer camp and clinic.
